In the Month of November, the Cornerstone Masonic Historical Society, located at 300 Stage Road in Monroe, NY is hosting a silent auction of the Wallkill River School of Arts of paintings of historical and scenic Monroe, NY. Pictured is Shawn Dell Joyce putting finishing touches on of the artworks available in this special auction. The public will have the opportunity to place bids on the artworks at the public viewings and special events listed below.
November 6th, starting at 7pm sharp: Special Presentation of the Cornerstone Masonic Historical Society "Arts in the Hudson Valley: Continuing Traditions of the Plein Air Painters." CMHS board president, Paul Miller, is generously providing the public with an opportunity to view a portion of his private collection of the Hudson Valley River School of Art created in the mid 1800's. In addition Mr. Miller will give a presentation of the history of the Plein Air Artists from the famous school, and will be joined by Lorraine Furey of Wallkill River School of Art, an organization of artists that continue this tradition today. This event is free, and Refreshments will be served.
Public viewings of the artwork will be on October 26th, November 3rd and November 16th from 1-4 pm, and at the Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Historical Society on November 5th, from 7a.m to 7p.m.
The art show will culminate with a formal artists reception on November 17th, 3-6 pm where winning bids will be announced. Refreshments will be served. This event is also free to attend. The building is handicapped accessible. Part of the proceeds of this event benefit the ongoing restoration and maintenance of McGarrah’s Inn, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
